The Life of a Christian Leader
As God’s servant or spiritual leaders LET’S PRACTICE WHAT WE PREACH BY LEADING PEOPLE WITH A GOOD EXAMPLE.
As true servant of God let us lead people with a good example. Let’s always teach people by Godly example so that people would learn from us, listen and follow what we preach or advise them, and also that we may bring glory to God, build up the Church of God and encourage the unsaved to receive Christ as their savior and Lord. Remember the definition of a leader. A leader is the one who knows the way, shows the way and goes the way. Let’s set an example to others by speaking the truth, acting well and kindly.
This is like what an apostle, Paul advise Timothy as a leader “TO SET AN EXAMPLE FOR THE BELIEVERS IN SPEECH, IN LIFE, IN LOVE, IN FAITH AND IN PURITY” ( 1 Timothy 4:12). The proverb says ” A GOOD EXAMPLE IS THE BEST SERMON” meaning that ” GIVING AN EXAMPLE IS BETTER THAN GIVING ADVICE” another proverb says “PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH” this means that ” DO YOURSELF WHAT YOU ADVISE OTHERS TO DO” We should not be guilty of such things for which the world will accuse us. ( 1 Timothy 3:2; Titus:6). The following are some of challenges that we may face if we lead people with a bad example; 1. people will not listen and follow our advice even though we may speaking the truth of God’s word. For bad example hinders people from listening to God’s word. 2. If we fall to lead others properly, by our own christian life the people in congregations will scatter very quickly. True christian will run away from our Churches and join other churches. 3. People will say evil about ourselves and our churches. They will say we are hypocrite and our church is bad. They will not want to come to our church. People might regard our churches to be evil because of one person.4. It will be difficult to correct other people when they go astray. They can use the word of Jesus which He says on Matthew 7:3-5 about judging others. “WHY DO YOU LOOK AT THE SPECK OF SAWDUST IN YOUR BROTHER’S EYE AND PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE PLANK IN YOUR OWN EYE? HOW CAN YOU SAY TO YOUR BROTHER, LET ME TAKE THE SPECK OUT OF YOUR EYE, WHEN ALL TIME THERE IS A PLANK IN YOUR OWN EYE? YOU HYPOCRITE, FIRST TAKE THE PLANK OUT OF YOUR OWN EYE, and THEN YOU WILL SEE CLEARLY TO REMOVE THE SPECK FROM YOUR BROTHER’S EYE.”
We pretend to be a man of God while we are not. Because we preach to them that we are hypocrite. A hypocrite is a person who pretend to be something that he or she is not. It is someone who says he or she believe in Jesus or tries to act like he or she loves him but really does not. A hypocrite says one thing and does another. The proverb says”A TREE IS KNOWN BY ITS FRUITS” meaning that ” A MAN IS JUDGED BY HIS ACTIONS” Another proverb says, FACTS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS” this means that ” PEOPLE SHOW WHAT THEY ARE REALLY LIKE BY WHAT THEY DO, RATHER BY WHAT THEY SAY.”
Therefore let’s practice what we preach by leading people with a good example otherwise all our hard work will be useless if we do not follow and practice what we preach. Remain blessed as you read this short sermon.
